Ben's Arsenal

I'm ordering all my Christmas presents this year!

Whew..we made it through the sickness, I mean the season!

This is the first time that I'm actually glad to be taking down the tree and any semblance of the holidays! From December 14th til January 1st, someone in our family had a horrible sleep-wrecking cough, ear infection, doctors visit (a total of $200 in just co pays not to mention prescriptions!), sore throat, body aches, or a runny nose, every single day! Poor Mike, we thought he was scott-free and the Saturday before Christmas, he started getting sick too. So it ran its course right through our house, but we did enjoy our relatively sleepless holiday. At least we were all together! No one seemed to want to visit us. Hmm, wonder why??
On another note, some people have been asking me how my MRI turned out and it was good, no signs of regrowth! So lets just keep it that way. Next one is in February. Hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. We were all in bed by 10 New Years eve....Oh well, Mike and I woke up to the sound of the the neighbors yelling "Happy New Year!" and that was just as good as seeing the ball drop for us!!!
I'll be adding updated pictures as soon as I figure out my new camera! (My wonderful Christmas/Birthday present! Unfortunately it was needed as I facilitated the early demise of my old camera while we were on vacation in November...it just slipped from my hand on to the concrete.....really!)

Why is it so quiet over there?

I was taking a few quiet moments to do some emailing Ben, my three year old was napping and Jenna my ten month old had just woken up. She was being SO good, as I quietly was tapping out some messages. Suddenly I thought, "A ten month old, quiet?" She was literally within ten feet away, in view, with her back to me. I went over and thought, what is that all over the floor? Well, apparently antibiotics don't agree with her stomach, and her stomach didn't agree with her diaper and the results had found an opening in said diaper, as she sat on my carpet!!! She had both hands in it and was rubbing it all over her dress. I was standing there and didn't know whether to laugh or cry! I just grabbed her and took her (at arms length) up for a bath at 3 in the afternoon. She was delighted, I was not. Especially when I had to come back down and clean that carpet! Someday I'll look back on this and laugh, right...... right?
Oh, PS Jenna took her first step on Wednesday, one day shy of being ten months old! Yay Jenna!

Welcome home!

I took Ben to a local park to meet his best buddy, John. They just had the nicest time and I had fun talking with his Mom and sister Kaylene.

I feel blessed that I have a friend who is strong in her Christian faith and has children around the same age as mine. What would we do without our sisters in faith?

After Mike returned from a recent business trip, our family went for a nice bike ride. Well, Jenna and I took a bike and Mike and Ben took the 4-wheeler! Once a boy always a boy!
It was so nice to be together for once!

July was an active month!

July was a very active month for our family. The summer is just flying by!
Ben has swimming lessons on Mondays and still says on the way to the YMCA, "I'm not putting my face in the water, ok Mommy"? I guess I haven't fully explained his genetics to him. His mother was a lifeguard, as were both of his uncles and his Aunt....What more does a kid need to know?? (HA!) I remember swimming lessons when I was little, a freezing cold, spring fed pool on the local Army Depot Base. The swimming instructors had just come from boot camp and were trying out their new persuasion techniques. "BLUE LIPS WILL NOT GET YOU OUT OF THIS CLASS"!! I remember wondering if I could throw up in the water...maybe I would be a hero of some sort!! YAY MEG, NO SWIMMING LESSON TODAY!

Instead, Ben has his lessons, inside, in a literal Sauna. (When I go I just wear my suit, because I look like I've been swimming by the time his class is over, and so does Jena!) The water is at least 85 degrees. I wonder what it will take for him! I think that if we keep with it, it'll just click for him. He's a good boy though, when we get there Miss Sue grabs his hand and off he goes, silently with his head down. I have to admit, I feel a bit guilty! But this is good training because September 5th is his first day of preschool! I'm excited for him. He's ready to play and interact with other kids for an extended period of time.

July 4th we went to Pa for a family reunion and stayed at my Dad's "farmette". He has 10 acres and a barn but no animals yet! Mike and I had the brilliant idea of taking our 4-wheeler and Ben's little motorcycle. It was great till Mike hit a groundhog hole going at breakneck speed and the hit a big pile of dirt. All I remember was seeing Mike go up into the air and the quad landing on him!! I wanted to run down to him screaming but then I remember that I was a Mommy! I calmly asked Ben to stay there while I took Jena with me on Ben's little bike (If it wasn't such a scary situation it would have been comical seeing Jena and I ride across the pasture on that teeny tiny motorcycle!) Mike was in serious pain and I realized that we were in for yet another visit to the ER! Mike ended up with 3 sets of ribs broken!! Poor guy....
I asked him if he'd forgotten that he has a wife, a son and a little baby girl to think about!!! I sometimes wonder if the gasoline goes to their brains!! I guess he has that need for speed!
So he's feeling a little better now. He's able to sleep just about all night.....The one thing that came out of it is that he realized that he can't continue to do this and has got his Honda MX bike in the paper. I'm already metering out what we'll do with the money! he he!

Jena is 7 months and really doing wonderfully. She's sitting up, eating cheerios, and is working on her third tooth. She ALMOST is crawling; Moving her hands and then kind of hops her legs forward. Its so cute!
She has just started to play "shy" in front of people she doesn't know that well. But she ALWAYS has a smile for anyone...she's such a happy little baby. I love watching her watch Ben. She thinks he's just wonderful and laughs at him no matter what he does. A baby laughing....can you think of a sound better than that?
We had her 6 month pictures taken in July (I know, she was actually 7 months!) and they turned out so well.

As for me, I am due to get another MRI in the next week or so and then have it sent down to my Neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Please pray for NO REGROWTH!
I feel really good except for having the flu last week. But I'm almost 100% now!
My neighbor and I go to kickboxing on Thursdays and I try to walk the days in between. I can feel my strength getting back to where it used to be before the surgery and baby. Which is a good thing with a three year old and a 7 month old!
I decided to take a chance and invite our whole neighborhood to have a yard sale. We have ten families involved, so it should be great, barring rain!
Till next time!

Prayer time and Potty Training....needing help with both!

Ok so I haven't blogged in a month or more...I have such a hard time getting to the blogging after answering my email and runnning after Ben and caring for Jena too. I guess its just not on my "to do" list. My biggest challenge has been making time for quiet time with God. How do you all do it? I'd love to hear some of your suggestions! I'm guessing that some of you actually set an alarm to get up before your kids? Ben is usually up anywhere between 5:45 and 7 am. He's a good alarm clock but that spoils my alone-time!
I have no idea why I let so much get in the way of that time. I have been taking my waking moments to prayerfully "put on the armor of Christ", mentally. I heard it in a message from Charles Stanley and it made so much sense. That seems to be a good way to start the day and if I don't happen to get time in The Word, then I feel that at least I've had some prayer time
Today I got up at 6 am and got to the grocery store by 7:30. Since it was Saturday I was able to leave Jena and Mike sleeping. Ben, (aka Mr. Alarmclock) wasn't all that excited at the prospect of joining me at the wonderfully exciting grocery store! So I tempted him with the morsel of a stop at Home Depot first, to sit on the lawn mowers. He was out the door before I got my shoes on! Whatever works, right?
We're still working on potty training and Ben is doing better than he was...but me, however, I'm doing much worse...really. I've come to the opinion that 90% of the training is our own. I FORGET to ask him. I can't really expect a three year old to take himself to the bathroom while he's outside, engrossed in the latest sandbox rendition of Windsor Castle? Can I? But its hard not to be slightly annoyed....To be honest...as you are changing the 3rd pair of underware. I do pretty well during the week, but when Mike is home it throws me all off. Ben wants to be with him outside and Mike doesn't remember to ask as well...but he does do pretty good once you throw a few reminders out the sliding glass door! I guess we'll get through it and it'll all be a distant memory, and then Jena will be ready! I honestly had no idea how difficult potty training was. Our greatest triumph so far was when we were in TJ Maxx and Ben told me he had to poopy...we RAN to the bathroom and sure 'nuff, he did! Yay Ben! I was so proud. I'd have thought you were crazy had you told me I'd be writing this ten years ago!

I am three times more blessed than I was ten years ago though! God Bless my Hubby and Kids!
